Google just released some brand new information that will be very interesting to Android users who love movies. Google has officially partnered up with Metro Goldwyn Mayer (you may know them as MGM) to bring 600 of their most famous movies to Android and YouTube.

Yes, MGM are well known for having backed some of the most iconic classic movies in Hollywood history. Google’s licensing deal will bring renewed interest to their brand new and revamped cross-platform store, Google Play, and gives Android users the opportunity to do more than look up Binguez, and play on Draw Something for entertainment.

Titles included in the brand new deal include Rocky, Robocop and The Terminator, to name a few, and follows their deal with Paramount Pictures a few weeks prior. 500 of Paramount’s titles are to be available on Android, despite the ongoing legal stand-off between Viacom and YouTube. However, anyone expecting the waters to be cleared between the two companies should think again. There was a court ruling that reactivated the case (that was dismissed last year).

MGM joins the ranks of five other major studios and 10 independent firms that have given licence permission to Google. The only major studio still dragging their feet is 20th Century Fox, due to Rupert Murdoch being vocally critical of Google and their attempt to block the pirated content that appear on their search engine.

So, with over 1100 movies to choose from, it looks like Google are planning a full monopoly on the online film market too. We’ll see how this plays out. In the mean time, get your smart phones and Android tablets out and catch up on a golden oldie on the way to work.
